Dear Community,

As the corona virus (COVID19) continues to impact the world and our local community, we are all faced with many changes.  One thing that does not change is
our commitment to you.  Your well-being is our primary concern.  We want our clients to continue to have the counseling and psychotherapy support you need in a way that keeps everyone safe.

Due to the rapidly evolving situation with COVID-19 and desire to follow the latest recommendations for enhanced social distancing at this virus inflection point, we have decided to move all sessions to telehealth as of Wednesday March 25th until public health directives allow a return to normal services.  We are set up for simple, easy and secure video sessions or we can provide telephone sessions.

Please plan to keep all your scheduled sessions and discuss with your clinician the best modality for you. Regarding our cancellation policy:  we will work with you around any necessary changes to your schedule the best we can.  If you feel you are in crisis or feel you must have an in person session, please contact your therapist.

Our office will remain open, with  confidential, virtual sessions by appointment only.  You may call the main number 713 461-7599 x 0 or call your therapist if you have questions.

Stressful situations such as COVID 19 are a challenge to all of us.   A wide range of emotional responses, including anxiety and distress, are normal in times like these. One of the most stressful features of this crisis is our sense of the unknown.  Here in Houston, if we are facing a storm, we know how to prepare and a bit of what to expect.  With a pandemic, the territory is unfamiliar.   It is important to strike a balance.  That means making wise choices, evaluating your risk factors and following the recommendations on how to best stay healthy.  Meanwhile, there are a few things you can do to support your mental health. We encourage you to avoid excessive news watching or internet searches as these can lead to stress and anxiety.   Practice the things that help you feel more calm and hopeful, like meditation or listening to music.  Take a walk outside, away from crowds.  Read a book from that stack you’ve been saving.  Stay in touch with friends, via phone, text, FaceTime.   As always, please reach out to us for support.

Wishing you and your family good health,

Jyl Scott-Reagan

Houston's 3rd Annual Compassion Week April 22-29, 2017

Houston's 3rd annual Compassion Week is from April 22nd through April 29th and begins with Compassion Fest on Saturday, April 22nd at noon in Levy Park. The Center for Creative Resources will be hosting a booth at Compassion Fest to kickoff the week. Similar to the community art installation project from 2016, Growing Compassion will be a 5-foot long tree branch adorned with compassionate messages and art from passersby at Compassion Fest to symbolize Houston's emphasis on growing kindness, empathy, tolerance, diversity, and goodwill in our city. Stop by the booth and add your message as you enjoy family-friendly live performances, food vendors, games, and the booths of other local, compassionate organizations. For more information about Compassion Week and Houston's initiative for compassion and to see a video of last year's opening celebration visit www.compassionatehouston.org. Houston's Compassion Week
April 10-16, 2016

The Center for Creative Resources participated in Houston's Compassion Week Opening Celebration at The Waterworks on Buffalo Bayou. At the booth participants were invited to "make one or take one" of a collection of cards to inspire and offer compassion. One side of the card is original art work and the other side is a compassionate phrase or quote. Those needing a prompt were asked, "What is the color of compassion?" and "What is your deepest wish for yourself and others?" A few days later, the cards in possession were woven and tied into a dream catcher to illustrate the community's interconnected compassionate messages. Catching Compassion spent a week catching messages at the Center for Creative Resources and will appear at a booth at the Houston NAMI Walk on April 30, 2016. At future events, this living project seeks to engage all people of all ages and backgrounds by continuing to catch and offer compassionate art and wishes. Part community art installation and part reservoir of compassionate messages, the hope for this project is that it will cultivate one of the most positive and enjoyable states of the human experience.
